To rebuild inventory and resume delivering to the approximately 50 pantries in Fayette County

Food Bank and Community Service Center

Early morning, Friday June 17, 2016, the food bank and Community Service Center were reported to be flooded when Redstone Creek spilled over its banks. The food bank damage could not be measured, but hundreds of boxes were soaked from muddy water. And vehicles were destroyed.

We had another scare Wednesday evening the 22nd with the threat of more rain. Employees sandbagged the doors Wednesday night, fearing more water damage.

Staff and volunteers are still cleaning up since Redstone Creek overflowed last week.

Our Food Bank and Community Service center were hard hit, and several hundred boxes of Commodity Supplemental Food Program items for senior citizens were destroyed. The garage and lobby area of the Family Service Center also sustained damage.

Social service agencies in the community service center are temporarily housed in other buildings on the campus. We are still cleaning up and disinfecting the warehouse,

The food bank serves between 3,000 and 4,000 families a month. Most of the June cycle of food pantry deliveries had been made, Pantries that have inventory can fill emergency needs, Financial donations would help,
The agency sites are insured, "but you don't get back your value, so any donations would be greatly appreciated.
